times the five letters of STAMP are expanded on this site
This page, in its opening
STAMP, STAMPED, and STAMPING are common English words and common acronym material. This page names everyone else using them that we could find, in rough order of how likely a reader is to confuse them with this one. None of them is affiliated with Protocol STAMP, and Protocol STAMP is not affiliated with any of them.
To be clear about the sense meant here: a mark pressed onto a document to certify it. The five letters of STAMP are never expanded on this site; an acronym explained after the fact is exactly the kind of retrofit this program’s own evaluation work catches in others.

An RFC, a published paper, or the organization’s own materials. Numbered so they can be cited (“Other STAMPs, no. 1”).
1. RFC 8762 — Simple Two-Way Active Measurement Protocol
The one that matters most, and the reason this program is now called Protocol STAMP rather than what it was called until Sep 07, 2026. In networking, “the STAMP protocol” already means this: an IETF standard, published 2020, for measuring packet delay and loss between two points, extended by RFC 8972 and RFC 9503, and implemented in production gear from Juniper and Nokia. If you are citing the networking standard, cite it as RFC 8762, not as “the STAMP protocol.” If you are citing this program, cite it as Protocol STAMP with this site’s URL.Sources: RFC 8762 · RFC 8972 · RFC 9503 · Juniper · Nokia
2. RFC 3161 — Time-Stamp Protocol (TSP)
A different, older IETF standard (2001), part of the X.509 public-key infrastructure: it defines how a Time Stamping Authority proves that a piece of data existed before a given time. Same family as the entry above (IETF, “stamp” in the name), unrelated purpose (cryptographic timestamping, not network measurement).Sources: RFC 3161
3. STAMP — Systems-Theoretic Accident Model and Processes
Nancy Leveson’s accident-causation model out of MIT, the foundation for the STPA (hazard analysis) and CAST (accident investigation) methods used across safety-critical industries: aviation, automotive, defense, medicine. Long established, with its own annual workshop; unrelated to AI evaluation.Sources: MIT PSASS · European STAMP Workshop · UL on STAMP, STPA and CAST
4. STAMP/STPA applied to AI loss of control
A 2025 paper adapting Leveson’s STAMP/STPA framework to characterize the factors that lead to loss of control in AI systems. The nearest neighbor on this list by subject (AI, safety), even though the underlying model predates language models entirely.Sources: arXiv 2512.17600
5. STAMP — Statistical Analysis of Metagenomic Profiles
Bioinformatics software from Parks and colleagues (2014) for statistical comparison of taxonomic and functional profiles of microbial communities. Unrelated field entirely.Sources: GitHub · PubMed 25061070
6. STAMP — Scalable Task- And Model-agnostic Collaborative Perception
An ICLR 2025 paper on collaborative perception for autonomous driving. Machine learning, but a different subfield: perception, not evaluation.Sources: arXiv 2501.18616 · OpenReview
7. STAMP 4 NLP
An agile, iterative process model for developing NLP applications, structured around nested development and evolution loops. Software-engineering methodology, not an evaluation protocol.Sources: arXiv 2111.08408
8. STAMP — Selective Task-Aware Mechanism for Text Privacy
A differential-privacy framework for text that perturbs tokens selectively according to how much they matter to a given task. Privacy engineering, not evaluation.Sources: arXiv 2603.12237
9. SemStamp (2023) and OpenStamp (2026)
Text-watermarking methods for language-model output, and the closest match on this list by topic, since watermarking and evaluation both live in “how do you know what a model produced.” The distinction: these mark generated text so it can be detected later; this protocol asks a model to mark, as it writes, the claims it cannot stand behind, in a line a reader can read. The watermark Anthropic now places in Claude’s output, discussed on the Colophon, is a third and separate thing.Sources: SemStamp, arXiv 2310.03991 · OpenStamp, arXiv 2608.27899
10. STAMP — Securities Transfer Agents Medallion Program
A signature-guarantee program used across U.S. and Canadian banks and brokerages to verify a signature on a securities transfer; the “Medallion stamp” on a stock power is this. Finance, unrelated to AI evaluation.Sources: SEC on signature guarantees (archived) · STAC overview of the program
11. STAMP — Screening Tool for the Assessment of Malnutrition in Paediatrics
A five-step nutrition-risk screening tool for children in hospital, developed in the UK (McCarthy and colleagues, 2012) and validated since in several countries.Sources: J Hum Nutr Diet, 2012
A nursing framework for assessing the risk that an emergency-department patient becomes violent, developed by Luck, Jackson and Usher (2007) and still taught.Sources: PubMed 17543010
An ultrafast single-shot camera technique capable of recording at trillions of frames per second, published by Nakagawa and colleagues at Keio and the University of Tokyo in Nature Photonics, 2014. Optics, unrelated to AI evaluation.Sources: Nature Photonics, 2014 · Keio University
An industrial checklist acronym used across the hose-and-hydraulics trade for specifying a replacement hose assembly.Sources: Hose Assembly Tips
15. Stamped from the Beginning and Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You
Ibram X. Kendi’s 2016 history, and its 2020 young-adult adaptation co-written with Jason Reynolds. Books, not protocols; listed because “Stamped” alone finds them first.
16. Stamped (stamped.io)
An e-commerce reviews-and-loyalty platform. A search for “stamped reviews” or “stamped receipts” lands here first. No relation.Sources: Stamped help center
17. Stamps.com
Postage and shipping software. No relation.
18. The Stamp Act of 1765
The British tax on paper goods in the American colonies, and the protests it caused: one of the more famous pieces of pre-Revolutionary tax history, and the owner of the top search result for “stamp act” and, often, “stamp protocol.”Sources: Britannica

From acronym dictionaries, not independently confirmed
Pulled from crowd-sourced acronym dictionaries (AcronymFinder, AllAcronyms). Listed for completeness, but we have not independently confirmed that the organization behind each one still uses it, or that it is documented anywhere beyond the aggregator. Treat this section as a lower-confidence tier than the list above; the two are kept apart for the same reason an issue keeps a computed figure apart from a recalled one.
